Silver Flames did not disappoint! It was a great second book in the series. The characters were well written and the story flow was perfect. I liked the twists and turns throughout the book. I didn't like Abby's tragic beginning, it was sometimes hard to read about (nothing to do with the book- the author handled the subject very well), but the way Christopher became her protector was excellent. Definitely worth reading. I can't wait to read the next one in the series!Product details

Interesting and informative foray into the past. Romantic without being pornographic. Difficult to put down for even a short break. Yes, I recommend and will look for others by Ms. Kirland!
Enjoyed reading this book and love the way the writer takes you through the story. Almost like you are there.
Great story. The author really pulled me into this book and kept my interest with numerous twists and unusual happenings. There were subjects normally not discussed in this genre and I thought it was well written, overall.
I enjoyed the setting in Williamsburg VA, as well.
Got an installment free, and when I finished that, had to buy the rest to find out how it turned out. Loved it.
Abby has endured unspeakable horrors during her marriage but is finally free when her husband dies in an accident. She is now running the tavern on her own but is dismayed to learned that her husband mortgaged it. She is behind on her payments and must choose between a lecher and the oh so handsome new silversmith Christopher Carlton. But will he still want her once her past and inadequacies are exposed?
Christopher is excited to start his new business in Middle Plantation. Taking over for the former silversmith, he is eager to start but is quickly put out when a fire destroys his shop and he is forced to stay at the Stag's Head tavern and meets Abby. He is intrigued by her and when he find out about her dilemma, offers her marriage to prevent her from another life of abuse.
What I enjoyed about this story is how well Chris and Abby learned to grow with each other. I'm amazed that Abby survived this long and is still innocent in some ways. She is skittish but Chris understands and is a gentle man who isn't going to give up when she gets scared. Yes it's fiction so readers will have to suspend your imagination about how well their relationship progresses but I still thought it had a nice pace to it.
There are several not so nice characters that you just want to ... For lack of a better words tar and feather but again realize it was a time when these "behaviors" were "accepted". On the other hand, Chris' sister needs a good firm shake. A grown woman and to stoop to childish behavior. Uggh.
Overall, I really enjoyed it and I look forward to more books from Ms. Kirkland.
It is a great story with twists and turns! Love to read story’s that aren’t predictable and work out in the end!
The story was written well and easy to stick with. The characters were fun and engaging. I really loved the first book and the second wasn't a let down in the least. A few of the characters from the first book were included in this one which tied the stories together nicely. I would recommend the series as a very nice read.
